In an effort to connect to the community through artwork, the city of Lompoc’s Public Works and Utilities Departments held its first Mobile Mural Contest in the 2017 National Public Works Week theme, Public Works Connects Us.
The eight winners, including the grand prize Hall of Fame winner, submitted artwork that represented their vision of the theme. People of all ages were encouraged to participate in the contest.
The winners of the contest are Noemie Manquet, Benjamin Rodriguez, Julie Shepherd, Maximino Barragan, Alexis Ramirez, Gerardo Fernandez, and Lodene Blair’s La Honda Elementary School kindergarten class (pictured). The Hall of Fame winner is Carlos M. Lopez.
The city of Lompoc’s staff picked the winners of the Mobile Mural Contest, and their artwork will be displayed on the side of the city’s new refuse trucks. The winner of the Hall of Fame will have their artwork displayed “in an additional manner to be determined,” according to the city’s press release.
The winning art pieces, along with their artwork titles, can be seen at cityoflompoc.com/publicworks/mobilemural.htm.
