The Santa Barbara Foundation’s Katherine Harvey Fellows recently awarded grants to two groups in the Santa Maria area.

Good Samaritan Shelter, which provides emergency services to the homeless and people in recovery in Santa Maria Valley, received a $20,000 grant.

Growing Grounds Farm Santa Maria, which combines horticultural therapy with vocational training to provide mentally ill people with employment and a supportive environment, received $25,000.

The Fellows are part of an 18-month leadership program that recruits young professionals for the Santa Barbara Foundation’s committees and trustees.

With each Fellow contributing financially, the group raised $100,000 to support education, the homeless, and health care. The Santa Barbara Foundation has been involved in
philanthropy for 81 years.
