Allan Hancock College celebrated the completion of its last major project funded by a $180 million bond passed in 2006 with the grand opening of the $17.6 million Industrial Technology Complex on Jan. 30.
“We are just starting the second semester in the new building, and it’s just fantastic,” said Danny Prewett, an auto tech student who was talking to visitors about the transmission lab on Jan. 30.
Prewett’s been in the program for almost two years and said the biggest difference is the amount of space students have now. There’s more lifts, and when multiple classes are using one of the classrooms in the building, it’s not as crowded.
The facility was completed in 2014 and includes more than 35,000 square feet of classroom and laboratory space for the eight industrial tech programs: apprenticeship training, architectural drafting, auto body technology, automotive technology, electronics technology, engineering technology, machining and manufacturing technology, and welding technology.
The bond passed by voters in 2006 has almost completely transformed Hancock’s campus. It’s resulted in the college’s new track and fields, student services and administration buildings, Children’s Center, and Public Safety Training Complex in Lompoc, as well as millions of dollars of new technology.
