Building crews are nearing completion on the first two phases of construction on the Union Valley Parkway intersection project, which sits at the border of Orcutt and Santa Maria near the Foxenwood area.
The first phase, which was contracted out by the city of Santa Maria to G. Sosa Construction, connects Blosser Road to Broadway at a cost of approximately $1.6 million.
Phase two focuses on widening and reconstructing Blosser Road at the site of the future interchange, located just south of the Foxenwood community. That phase was contracted out to John Madonna Construction for about $3.5 million, according to the cityās senior civil engineer Rodger Olds. Both of the phases also include lighting work and paving.
Olds said the parallel construction projects are both on schedule. A third phase, which will connect Hummel Drive to Broadway, is currently in the designing process. The entire project should be completed āsometime in the early fall,ā Olds added.
The decades-old extension project is designed to create a major traffic artery connecting Orcutt to the west side of Santa Maria and relieving traffic along Clark Avenue and Santa Maria Way.
