Cuyama graduates Jazmin Ojedas and Karen Mancilla were selected to participate in this year’s summer internship program provided by energy producers. Ojedas will be interning with E&B Natural Resources while Mancilla will spend her internship with Macpherson Oil Company.

E&B Natural Resources, California Resources Corporation, and Macpherson Oil Company collaborated with the California Independent Petroleum Association (CIPA) and several school districts to give graduating seniors an opportunity to have hands-on experience in a petroleum industry career.

Cuyama Joint Unified School District Superintendent F. Paul Chounet recruited the students to be a part of the internship program, according to a press release from CIPA.

“When the district was approached, we did not have an internship program and welcomed being a part of the pilot,” Chounet said in the release. “The Cuyama school district is establishing an energy career pathway, and this program demonstrates the connection between what students learn in the classroom and how it can apply to their future employment.”

The interns began working mid-June and are living in the California State University, Bakersfield, dorms.
