On Jan. 20, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) allocated $1 billion to more than 100 transportation projects statewide, including $838 million from Proposition 1B, a transportation bond approved by voters in 2006. The remaining funds came from various state and federal transportation accounts. Locally, the CTC allocated $37.7 million to widen the Santa Maria River bridge near the San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara County line from four to six lanes with shoulders and a bike lane. This project includes $25 million in Proposition 1B funding, $10 million from the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG), and $2.7 million from the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG). ā€œI am delighted that we can now move forward on this important transportation project in the region, and I would like to thank the many agencies involved in making this happen,ā€ Caltrans District 5 Director Rich Krumholz said in a press release. Construction on this project is expected to begin in the summer of 2011.
