Falling ill during the summer months can put a damper on vacation plans, but local healthcare managers are confident in their abilities to get people back under sunny skies. They have reason to be. After all, the president of Marian Medical Center and CHW Central Coast Service Area, Charles J. Cova, has become a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

To attain the fellow distinction, a candidate must meet rigorous academic and work-related criteria, and succeed at a comprehensive examination. The candidate is also required to exhibit involvement at the professional and community level. They also have to stay committed, as fellows are recertified every three years.

Only 7,500 healthcare professionals hold this title. The American College of Healthcare Executives is an international society that encompasses more than 30,000 healthcare specialists.

ā€œBecause healthcare management ultimately affects the people in our communities, it is critically important to have a standard of excellence promoted by a professional organization,ā€ Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, president and chief executive officer of ACHE, said in a news release. ā€œBy becoming an ACHE Fellow, and simultaneously earning board certification from ACHE, healthcare leaders can show that they are committed to providing high-quality services to their patients and community.ā€
