The Helen Diller Family Foundation is seeking nominations for its fifth annual Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award, a $36,000 scholarship that recognizes the state’s most socially aware Jewish teens.
According to the foundation, “Tikkun olam” is a Hebrew phrase that literally translates to “repair the world.” The Tikkun Olam Award was established by Bay Area philanthropist Helen Diller to help identify, reward, and encourage the next generation of Jewish leaders, and to realize their visions for improving their communities and their world.
Teens can be nominated by teachers, community leaders, rabbis, or anyone familiar with their volunteer service and commitment. Family members, however, can’t make nominations. Candidates must be California residents between 13 and 19 years old. Nominees must identify themselves as Jewish, though community service projects can benefit the general community and the world at large.
Nomination forms can be filled out and submitted by Dec. 17 online at jewishfed.org/diller/teenawards.
For more information, visit sfjcf.org/diller or call (415) 512-6432. Representatives from the Helen Diller Family Foundation are available to answer questions about the awards and how winners are determined.
