Kermit McKenzie Junior High School’s “Green Machine” will be performing again after not having a music program for several years.

New instruments for the students have arrived, and restoration and repair work has been completed by Patti Lynn and her husband, Tommy. The students are preparing for a Dec. 16 Performing Arts Showcase at Guadalupe City Hall and plan to participate in a parade in the spring.

“Everyone couldn’t be more excited,’’ said Bobcat Music Director Nick Burdick, who has been teaching the basics of beginning band in the morning before he heads back to finish out his day and full-time job as band director with the Righetti High School musicians. “There is really a tremendous amount of talent here. Music makes school fun and creates a complete person.’’

The Bobcat “Green Machine” has 38 dedicated musicians. Before the instruments arrived, the students learned the basics on a chalkboard about woodwinds, brass, and percussion before joining together for band instruction. Marching will be perfected after winter breaks.

Saxophonist Isaiah Noriz said, “Everyone is working hard and we will be ready” to give the joy of music. “It’s going to be awesome to share what we have learned with our families and the community.”
