Another Central Coast community will not allow commercial cannabis businesses to operate within its borders as of Feb. 13. The Guadalupe City Council voted to ban all but medical deliveries of the plant at its meeting that night.
The urgency ordinance passed unanimously and prevents city staff from being forced to issue recreational permits and licenses to cannabis businesses. However, City Attorney Philip Sinco told councilmembers at the meeting that if they were to adopt a permanent moratorium on the plant in the future that existing businesses would be grandfathered in, or exempted, from the ban.
While the Feb. 13 ordinance goes into effect immediately, the council plans to discuss prohibiting cannabis permanently at a later meeting.
The city currently allows the outdoor cultivation of up to six plants and medicinal delivery from dispensaries that are located outside city limits.
