The Crestview Cougars have something to really roar about: The California Department of Education presented the elementary school’s educators with a California Distinguished School award at the beginning of the month. The school is on Vandenberg Air Force Base property.

The award identifies schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and shown progress in helping students attain success regardless of their background, condition, or circumstances.
“Crestview is a wonderful place to learn; it’s a great school,” Crestview Elementary School Principal Ken Faulk said in a press release. “[Earning this award is a] prestigious honor. It is a really small club, and we are one of the few great schools in the state of California that have attained that honor.”
Crestview Elementary School is one of seven elementary schools to earn this award in Santa Barbara County this year.
“We have been extremely happy with the education that our kids have received from Crestview, both from the teachers and the principal,” Vandenberg Tech. Sgt. Shawn Cassim added in the release. “My oldest [child] is in honors courses in middle school, and I believe that stems from the education that he received at Crestview.”
Crestview is the only school in the Lompoc Unified School District to currently hold a California Distinguished School award. Most recently, Cabrillo High School held this honor.
