The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors is now accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the newly created spay/neuter task force, established to make recommendations to the board concerning the countywide spay/ neuter ordinance discussed earlier this year.

Applicants must be residents of Santa Barbara County who are 18 years old or older. Applications are due to the county before 5 p.m. on July 25, and can be mailed, dropped off in person, or e-mailed to the clerk of the Board offices, 105 E. Anapamu St., in Santa Barbara, and 511 E. Lakeside Pkwy., in Santa Maria. Send e-mails in a PDF or JPG format to sbcob@co.santa-barbara.ca.us.

Applications are available at both of the mailing addresses or online atcountyofsb.org/uploadedFiles/SpayNeuterTask Force.doc. A letter of interest should also be included with the application.

The 11 members of the task force will help address the local problem of pet overpopulation. The Board of Supervisors is expected to make its selection by Aug. 1. Task force members will be notified and sent informational material in August. The first meeting of the task force is scheduled for September.

Task force members will serve for about three to five months, with meetings on a biweekly basis. Members will be expected to attend meetings in several areas in the county, tour animal shelters, and draft a proposed ordinance to be presented to the board for its consideration.
