On March 4, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce will begin accepting applications for 2011 Strawberry Queen contestants, open to girls ages 5 to 18.

The honor of queen will be awarded to the girl who sells the most prize drawing tickets through April 15. Tickets cost $1 each, and prizes of $500, $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded for top sellers. Proceeds go toward scholarship funds.

In addition to receiving the coveted crown and sash, the queen will win a cash prize and make appearances throughout the year at community events.

The Strawberry Queen Contest Coronation Pageant will take place on April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Santa Maria Fairpark as part of the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival. To register, download a form available at santamariachambernews.com, and bring it with a photo to the chamber at 614 S. Broadway.
