A miniature mummy surrounded by treasures is living inside an old speaker box at the Lompoc Public Library until June 29.

It’s just a small part of the four-shelf display dedicated to the wonders of Egyptian history that Jana Hunking pieced together for the library’s display case, which showcases something new each month. Jewelry, hieroglyphics, and a miniature version of the Pyramids of Giza sit alongside the King Tutankhamen miniature mummy collection in a huge glass display case at the library’s center.

Hunking said some of the display is made up of Egyptian things she’s collected over the years.

“I’ve just been fascinated about that since I was a little girl,” she said.

But the star of the display is the miniature tomb of King Tut, which was put together and loaned to the library by Irene Getchel. The well-preserved mummy of King Tut was found in 1923. The chamber that held him was untouched for more than 3,000 years. Tut is thought to have been 19 years old at the time of his death.

The Lompoc Public Library is located at 501 E. North Ave., Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
