Detectives from Santa Maria Police Department are investigating a shooting on the evening of Oct. 30 that left one man dead.

According to SMPD Sgt. Paul Van Meel, officers were dispatched to the area of Cook and Smith streets at approximately 7:39 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim. When they arrived, they found 21-year-old Abraham Rojas with multiple gunshot wounds.Ā 

Police aren’t releasing any further information regarding the incident or Rojas’ injuries.Ā 

Rojas was treated by medical personnel and transported to Marian Regional Medical Center where he later died from his wounds.Ā 

Van Meel said police have not made an arrest and there are no suspects at this time.Ā 

The SMPD urges anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the police department at 928-3781, Ext. 2278.Ā
