Football games at Allan Hancock College will kick off a little earlier thanks to a rule change by the Southern California Football Association.

Starting next season, all home games will now begin at 4 p.m., instead of the usual 6 p.m. Most Hancock away games have also been switched to 4 p.m. The change was made in accordance with the league’s new guidelines allowing teams to move games earlier to a mutually agreed upon time.

According to Hancock athletic director Kim Ensing, the football program pursued the schedule changes due to safety concerns. An earlier start time means the teams will spend less time traveling late at night and helps teams save money on fees for stadium lights.

Hancock will continue the tradition of being host to special events at home football games during the 2012 season, including ā€œYouth Football Night,ā€ ā€œMilitary Appreciation Night,ā€ and ā€œAlumni Appreciation Night.ā€
