The Santa Ynez Valley Concert Series presents the Los Angeles Reed Quintet, live in concert, at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. The ensemble regularly performs a wide variety of music selections, including Baroque pieces, 21st century compositions, and other songs.
The quintet’s oboist is Claire Brazeau (pictured), an active soloist and chamber musician. Brazeau was a finalist in the 2017 International Gillet-Fox Oboe Competition, and is also the principal oboist of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
Donald T. Foster is the quintet’s clarinetist. According to press materials, Foster is famed film composer John Williams’ principal clarinetist. Foster also frequently plays with the Santa Barbara Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra.
Anthony Parnther, a featured performer on several film soundtracks, plays bassoon for the quintet. Throughout his career, Parnther has played for the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Joffrey Ballet, and other groups.
Multi-instrumentalist Patrick Posey is the quintet’s saxophonist. A founding member of the New York City-based contemporary collective Le Train Bleu, Posey also regularly performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony.
Prolific musician Brian Walsh plays bass clarinet for the quintet. Walsh specializes in contemporary classical music, jazz, and world music. Some of the groups Walsh has performed with in the past include the Brad Dutz Quartet, Brightwork New Music, and his own group, the Walsh Set Trio.
