The Neal Taylor Nature Center at Cachuma Lake will be host to two fishing events to kick off spring.

First is the Adult Fishing Workshop on March 17 from 8:45 a.m. to noon, teaching adults basic fishing skills. The registration fee is $10 and limited to the first 40 adults. All equipment will be provided.

To sign up, call 693-0691 or mail a check designated for the workshop to 2265 Hwy. 154, Santa Barbara, 93105.

Coming up on April 14 and 15 is the Nature Center’s 17th annual Trout Derby, with $5,000 in cash, plus thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes available to anglers who reel in the biggest fish.

The registration fee is $35 for adults until March 31 and $40 thereafter. Children ages 4 to 10 are $10. Registration forms are available at the Cachuma Lake Park entry gate, store, marina, Nature Center, and some local businesses.

All anglers 16 and older must have a fishing license, which may be purchased at the marina. Free arts and crafts activities will be offered to children on derby weekend. Individual campsites are available on a first come, first served basis; group areas are available to reserve by calling 686-5050.

For more information, leave your name and address on the Derby hotline at 693-8381 or visit troutderby.org.
