Did table tennis capture your eye during the Olympics? The city of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department announced it has launched a new table tennis class for beginning and experienced players.

The class will be offered informally on a drop-in basis where members can play from 2 to 5 p.m. each Sunday, and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights, at the Grogan Park Community Center, located at 1155 W. Rancho Verde Road in Santa Maria.

Instructor Guy Cutrone helps participants learn the game and is available to assist with any technical questions relating to the sport. There are three tables in use so matches are played concurrently.

The session runs Sept. 2 through Dec. 30, and participants can sign up for membership at any time during the session. The fee is $42 for city residents and $52 for non-residents.

Registration takes place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Recreation and Parks Administration Office, 615 S. McClelland St.

For more information, call the Recreation and Parks Department office at 925-0951, Ext. 260.
