The Clark Center Foundation awarded scholarships to four Arroyo Grande High School and four Nipomo High School performing arts seniors through an endowment to recognize young performers in the arts. The endowment was made possible through the bequests of the Jim O. Miller Performing Arts Memorial Fund, the Bernie Kautz Memorial Performing Arts Fund, and the Melick and Arlene Mendel estate.
Scholarships will be presented to the Arroyo Grande High School recipients at the Senior Awards Night on May 25. The Nipomo High School recipients will get theirs at the Senior Showcase on June 6. Both events will take place at the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande. Peg Miller and Ron Kautz, board members of the Clark Center Foundation, will make the presentations.
The eight student finalists will be awarded a total of $15,000 for further studies in their chosen areas. Recipients are Adam Park of Nipomo High School, who received $3,000 for his study of oboe and piano; Ivana Valenzuela of Nipomo High School, who received $2,500 for ballet study; Rachelle Williams of Nipomo High School, who received $2,500 for opera and musical theater; Ryan Brady of Arroyo Grande High School, who received $2,000; Andes Arevalo of Arroyo Grande High School, who received $1,500; Molly Dobbs of Arroyo Grande High School, who received $1,500; Rebecca Kovach of Arroyo Grande High School, who received $1,500; and Shelby Pool of Nipomo High School, who received $500.
