Santa Mara Valley Open Space is an all-volunteer group of locals who helped facilitate the first public open space and non-urban trail system in Orcutt. The group is planning a celebration of the trails with a group hike event followed by a free hamburger cookout for the general public.

The event is scheduled for June 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Orcutt Community Park Pavilion. The group asks the community to bring their own drinks (alcohol is prohibited in the park) when they come to enjoy the walk and barbecue.

Santa Maria Valley Open Space is committed to expanding the trail system in Orcutt while respecting property rights and accompanying land uses. More information is available at smvos.org.
