Hancock softball officially kicked off its season the week of Feb. 17 against Taft and Citrus colleges. After two amazing performances by freshman pitcher Katie Chenault, the Lady ’Dogs improved to an eight-game winning streak (as of press time). Chenault had 14 strikeouts and no hits allowed in the game against Citrus College. Missy Regalado also came up big with a three-run homer.

Meanwhile, three Hancock baseball players were awarded big honors last week. Pitcher Cody Thompson, catcher Ryan Welker, and outfielder Kyle Smith—all Central Coast natives—were named to the 2014 Academic All State Team by the Community College Baseball Coaches Association. According to Hancock Athletics, only 43 players in the state of California are named to the team each year.
