The White Cockade: A Novel of the American Revolution, a new historical fiction book by local author Mark James Miller, was released on Sept. 30 and is now available to order through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other sellers. The novel was published by Black Rose Writing and follows various “men and women caught up in the tumultuous events surrounding the early days of the American Revolution,” according to press materials.
Miller said he spent more than four years writing the novel and was inspired by a variety of books and films, including War and Peace and Ben Hur, respectively, which he described as “stories about people caught up in historical forces they cannot control.”
“I saw the same kind of compelling drama in our nation’s birth, as people with high ideals and strong feelings become embroiled in the events of 1775 and 1776,” Miller said in press materials.
Miller is currently a part-time instructor at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, where he’s taught English courses since 1995. In 2015, his first published novel, Red Tide, was released.
