As much art class as summer socializing, C Galley in Los Alamos is offering a variety of short-term classes for summer. The lineup begins in June with a couple of Saturday workshops for women, June 6 and July 11.

On June 6, with room for only five women, there will be a class in India Ink and Mark-Making. The class begins at 9 a.m. and work sessions are punctuated by a continental breakfast in the morning, and lunch at Quackenbush Cafe. After the afternoon art session, there will be a cheese and wine tasting critique at Bedford Thompson wine tasting garden, just three doors away. It’s a ā€œgetaway for the dayā€ for young moms or women who have always wanted to try their hand at art making, or for those who want a quiet afternoon in the country in Los Alamos.

A second Saturday class on Watercolor Basics and Ink with the same format is offered on July 11. Fee for one class is $110 and $200 if someone registers for both classes. Materials, lunch, wine tasting, and instruction are all included. Connie Rohde, Disney American Teacher 2003, will teach
the classes.

John Hood, associate professor of art and design at Allan Hancock College, will be offering Paper-Making on June 19 and June 20. Wear jeans and ā€œdress for sloppyā€ as Hood demonstrates the how-tos of making homemade paper. Enjoy sausages off the grill, beer, and a bonfire during the demonstration. Return June 20, 9 a.m. to noon, to finish your papermaking and for continental breakfast. Fee for the Friday-Saturday class/party is $75 and includes food, materials, and instruction.

In August, there will be Friday Night Figure Drawing, taught by Gallery Director Connie Rohde. These four sessions, Aug. 14, 21, 28, and 29, feature a live, experienced, model. The two-hour sessions include 90 minutes of drawing and 30 minutes to set up, take down, and enjoy some wine and cheese. Easels, some materials, and the wine and cheese are included in the $250 fee for four sessions. Adults only.
