The recent outbreak of swine flu has had Santa Maria-based Hardy Diagnostics working overtime to meet demand.Ā 

The medical device manufacturer made the equipment used to transport viral specimens to labs for analysis and identification. More than 6,000 labs are serviced by the company, which manufactures all of its products in Santa Maria.Ā 

Jay Hardy and Robert Shibata founded Hardy Diagnostics in 1980 in Santa Barbara. The company exports products to more than 30 countries and maintains six distribution centers throughout the United States.
