Representative Lois Capps announced the winner of the annual Congressional Art Competition on June 9: Dos Pueblos High School senior Anke Gladnick was selected to have her work included in the Washington, D.C., exhibit and festivities. Gladnick will also receive two round-trip tickets to the Capitol to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception.

The winning piece, a digital illustration titled Child’s Play, was chosen by a panel of judges, and was noticed for Gladnick’s use of technique.

ā€œAnke’s artwork is simply stunning, and I find her use of color and contrasting landscapes to truly embody the beauty of the Central Coast,ā€ Capps said in a statement. ā€œI am proud to have her artwork showcased in the Capitol for the next year. It will be a beautiful reminder of home every time I pass it on my way to vote on the House floor.ā€
