As Christmas approaches and things get hectic, don’t forget that the museum will be open during winter break from school. Need to get out of the house for a couple hours? Out-of-town visitors looking for something to do? Need a Christmas gift for that special family? Now is a great time to renew or purchase a 2012 Museum Membership. All of our weekly programs will be available during the school break, so be sure to take advantage of them while you can. Gift certificates for a Museum Membership can be purchased at smvdiscoverymuseum.org or by visiting the museum any time.
Has your school planned a field trip to the museum this year? What a great way to spend a morning, building and fostering a love for learning with so many hands-on activities for elementary-aged children.
Santa Maria’s own retired Allan Hancock College biology instructor, Jim Morrow, brings hands-on museum learning experiences to life at your school through the popular Museum in Motion program. The presentations are diverse and have become quite popular with many local elementary schools.
The museum has an exhibit called Tide and Seek, designed specifically for our 3-and-younger crowd. It’s soft and padded so our little ones can stay safe and enjoy their time with us. Please remember to remove shoes before entering into this space, and please help us enforce the age restrictions for the safety of our smallest visitors.
The museum offers so many other things to our community, so don’t forget to include the Discovery Museum as you make plans for 2012.
For more information, or if you have any questions, please feel free to visit our website or give us a call at 928-8414. Enjoy your holidays and give your family the gift of time at the Discovery Museum!
Also, don’t forget the 15th anniversary celebration set for Jan. 27, 2012.
