The new spokesperson for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is someone with whom a lot of people on the Central Coast are already familiar: former KCOY anchor Drew Sugars. Sheriff Bill Brown has appointed Sugars as the public information officer for the department, effective Oct. 6.
Sugars has been with the department since March in another media-related position. He will be taking over as public information officer from Sgt. Alex Tipolt, who has been transferred to the department’s Air Support Unit.
“Alex has done an outstanding job as our media spokesperson for the past year. His dedication and professionalism in a difficult and important role has been greatly appreciated. Drew has some big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt that he will do us proud in his new and expanded role,” Sheriff Brown said in a release.
