Rick Sweet, director of utilities for the city of Santa Maria, will be the featured speaker at the Business Development Luncheon on Aug. 19. Sweet has worked for the city for 21 years, starting as an assistant civil engineer, then becoming Santa Maria’s city engineer, director of public works, and finally director of utilities.

Sweet oversees the city’s water resources and administers an expansive Capital Improvement Program associated with water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities. He also evaluates the need for and development of plans for long-range public utility needs.

The Business Development Luncheon is open to all business leaders interested in networking and learning about events, activities, and proposals that could have a direct impact on their businesses. The lunch starts with networking at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon, and takes place at the Santa Maria Satellite Wagering Facility at the Santa Maria Fairpark.
