Beginning Aug. 2, the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum will be host to a weeklong program called Safety Town, aiming to teach children ages 4 to 6 commonsense safety tips, ranging from learning not to touch the stove to how to recognize a police officer. Members of the police and fire departments, as well as a registered nurse and members of animal control, will visit the children.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will be taught by a credentialed teacher. The students will reinforce what they learned through crafts, singing, and acting.

Registration for the program is open until it’s filled, and the museum expects to have about 20 children participate.Ā

To register, call the Santa Maria Discovery Museum at 928-8414
