The vast majority of us are immigrants, mostly back decades. My family arrived here about 1700 so I’m an Irish American like those those that arrived here from Africa. We call them African Americans, even though 99 percent have never been there or speak any of the languages. Why don’t they call me an Irish American like them—I speak English and have been there. Maybe things would go smoother if we called all of us Americans, as far as the different races—there is only one: We all are Homo sapiens.
