Registration for spring classes at Allan Hancock College’s Santa Maria campus is currently under way with more than 800 courses still available. Many begin the week of Jan. 25, and registration will continue until Jan. 24.

Students will not only be able to fulfill their general education requirements with the many options available, but also gain hands-on experience in a variety of semester-length and eight-week courses, including those in auto body, accounting, art, law enforcement, multimedia arts, and more.

An example of these hands-on opportunities can be seen in the film festival production course (FILM 386). This year, students who enroll in this course will take part in the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where they will see cutting-edge films and meet world-famous filmmakers. They will also participate in designing and producing a film festival at the Santa Maria campus in May.

Spring classes are being offered at the Lompoc Valley, Vandenberg AFB, and Solvang centers, and also online.

Other eight-week classes begin Jan. 25 or March 28. Dozens of Fast Track classes, which last less than eight weeks, begin throughout the semester. Spring courses range from accounting, agribusiness, and automotive technology to sociology, speech, and welding.

“For some students, the eight-week time frame fits their schedules better,” Nohemy Ornelas, vice president of student services, said in a press release. “Others enroll in eight-week classes because they enjoy the intensity and focus of the shorter courses.”

To view all spring classes, visit the AHC website at hancockcollege.edu and click the Class Search link on the home page. Search options include subject, location, instructor, number of credits and more.

All students register online via myHancock, which is accessed from the home page. Click the Student tab, then Register/Add/Drop/Search Classes.

New students and those without a user name and password must first apply for admission to the college before registering for classes.

The enrollment fee for California residents is $46 a unit, meaning a typical three-unit class costs $138. Other minimal fees apply.
