Get the school year off to a bright start with the Santa Maria Public Library’s free Homework Help Program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. On Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m., a grand re-opening celebration was planned for the Homework Center to help kick off the new year of learning.

Participants can meet the tutors and check out Brainfuse, a free online tutoring option that has live interactive tutoring available from 1 to 10 p.m. daily, test preparation, and skills-building exercises available in a variety of subjects to enhance learning in the library or at home with a library card. The main library is located at 421 S. McClelland St.

The program will be available Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the main library in the first-floor Homework Center area, and also at the Los Alamos branch library by appointment. The branch library is located at 405 Helena St., Los Alamos.

Elementary school students will be assisted by volunteer tutors in completing homework assignments, or practicing skills for improved mastery. Participating students will also have access to computers, study aids, and databases facilitated by library tutors.

This Homework Help Program is provided with funding assistance through the Santa Maria Library Foundation and the Edwin and Jeanne Woods Foundation.
