The dangerous particulate matter downwind of the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation is most critically affecting the Nipomo Mesa, which includes both Nipomo and Arroyo Grande.
Nipomo Mesa citizens who live in both Nipomo and Arroyo Grande are urged to attend the Jan. 25 meeting of the South County Advisory Council (SCAC) to speak during public comment and ask for the issue of heath-threatening air pollution caused by the Oceano Dunes SVRA to be placed on their agenda as an action item at its February meeting.
SCAC is authorized by statute to advise the Board of Supervisors on matters of public health. It meets at the Nipomo Community Services District building at 148 S. Wilson (off Tefft near Jockos) in Nipomo. For a map and more information on SCAC, see scac.ca.gov.
For more information on the air pollution issue, see safebeachanddunes.org, “Danger Downwind of the Oceano Dunes: Particulate Matter.” Also see Channel 2, Monday at 9 p.m., Thursday at 10 a.m., and Saturday at noon.
