Voter registration for California’s 24th Congressional District rose by 11 percent since Jan. 1, according to a report issued May 17 by Political Data Inc., a Los Angeles-based firm that keeps track of such statistics.
The report compared voter registration between Jan. 1 and May 1 from the 2012 and 2016 voting cycles.
Democratic Party voters increased by 14 percent, adding 16,054 more voters; Republican voter registration increased by 8 percent, or by 8,655 more voters.
Latino voter registration increased by 11 percent, or by 6,607 more voters.
The biggest increase was among voters younger than 30. That demographic was up 23 percent, adding 15,553 more voters.
In total, the report cites 352,797 registered voters in the district.
Across the state, Democratic voter registration increased by 218 percent, and Republican registration increased by 78 percent, according to the report.
Incumbent Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) is stepping down from her seat after serving for 18 years. Nine candidates—four Democrats, three Republicans, and two independents—are running for her seat.
