The Santa Maria Civic Theatre will present a reader’s theatre production of a play penned by local drama teacher from Righetti High School Dixie Arthur (pictured right) titled The Stepfather, which will show March 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. at the theater. The two-act play features 10 actors reading from scripts, explained Meg Smith (pictured left), a founding member of the Santa Maria Civic Theatre who returned to direct the reader’s theatre production of Arthur’s play.

“I enjoy that this play is about the condition of young people—there are two young people in the play—who have a stepfather,” Smith said. “I had a stepfather myself, and I was a stepmother, and so this resonates with me, the difficulty that step-parents have connecting with children.”

The production includes newcomers and veteran Civic Theatre performers, Smith explained, including Bob Larsen, Sandi Miller, Craig and Linda Scott, Nancy Kunishige, Paula Brown, Jaime Espinoza, Rafael Vega, Bobbi Miller, and Grace Kitchen. The Santa Maria Civic Theatre is located at 1660 N. McClelland St., Santa Maria. Cost is $10. More info: 922-4442.
