Bust out the tinsel and seasonal lawn ornaments-the city of Santa Maria is inviting locals to spread a little holiday cheer by participating in the 2008 Lights, Sights, and Holiday Nights Decoration Celebration.
The nomination period for this year’s event began Nov. 24 and will last until Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. Judging will take place on Dec. 10 between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Nominations can be made by calling the Nomination Hotline at 925-0951, Ext. 984, or by visiting the Recreation and Parks administrative office at 615 S. McClelland St. in Santa Maria.
Awards will be presented for the following categories: Most Inspirational, Best Residence, Neighborhood Spirit, Best Street, Best Use of Craftsmanship, Most Nostalgic, Best Business, and Best Low-Energy.
The contest is presented by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Commission, the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, and the Santa Maria Valley Lions Club.
