The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is seeking artists to beautify five traffic signal control boxes with “captivating and inspiring” artwork, the city detailed in a release. The city wants artists who can “enhance the utility boxes in a vivid way.”

The opportunity is open to residents in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Artists will be paid a $500 stipend and up to $200 reimbursement for material costs. The deadline to submit an application packet, which requires samples of work, is Nov. 18 by 5 p.m. An application and a utility box template is available on the city’s website at cityofsantamaria.org/resident.

More information is available at 925-0951, Ext. 2263, or dsmitherman@cityofsantamaria.org.
