Property owners in Oceano Beach, especially near Pier Avenue where Oceano’s air quality was monitored, are at risk of losing our quality of life and property values. ODSVRA activities, particularly traffic dragging dust from the beach, are a growing concern in our neighborhood. These activities are an unabated nuisance that creates a health hazard and the need for property owners to disclose it.
Our county’s Phase 2 Particulate Matter Study found that ODSVRA activity is responsible for unhealthy particulate matter concentrations on the Mesa and Oceano Beach area. The measurements near Oceano’s Pier Avenue violate California health standards 48 days a year. This serious health threat cannot be ignored. If we run a business in this area or we want to sell our property, we are liable to our clients and customers if they get sick from the particular matter and we had not disclosed it. A guest at a vacation rental on the Strand had to be hospitalized on June 16 because she could not breathe.
Our lives are threatened daily by ODSVRA traffic and users blocking our streets. A few weeks ago, a resident trying to turn into the Strand from Pier Avenue to go home was assaulted by a group of off roaders blocking the road while pumping air in the tires of their big vehicles. We must act now to protect our health and investment against those that for profit and fun are turning our community, Oceano Beach, into a ghetto.
