The Lompoc Police Department is joining with the community to rally behind one of their police explorers, also the son of a Lompoc police officer, who is fighting leukemia.Ā
Noah Scott, 14, son of Cpl. Charles Scott, was diagnosed in July with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). He is currently undergoing chemotherapy, and has been in and out of the hospital during his treatment for ALL, which is the most common childhood cancer. ALL occurs when a bone marrow cell develops errors in its DNA.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Scott family with medical expenses, and is almost half way to its $25,000 goal. A Facebook page has also been established in support of Noah.
Members of the Lompoc Police Department have shaved their heads in solidarity with Noah as he lost his hair due to his cancer treatment.
Cpl. Scott and his family have been moved by the outreach from the police department and community, according to city officials.
āThe support has just been amazing from the police department to our local sports programs and the churches,ā Cpl. Scott said in a press release. āI know Noah really appreciates the support. Itās definitely been a little overwhelming in a good way,ā he added.
A number of fundraising events and a blood drive and bone marrow registry are planned in the coming weeks for Noah, and the community is encouraged to take part:
⢠Wednesday, Aug. 24, there will be a fundraiser night at El Toro Bronco, 1030 North H St., from 4 to 9 p.m. Fifty percent of proceeds from this event will be donated to the Scott family.
⢠Friday, Aug. 26, there will be a blood drive and bone marrow registry in front of the Lompoc Police Department, 107 Civic Center Plaza, from 2 to 6 p.m. There will also be a bake sale, and T-shirts and wristbands will be sold.
⢠Sunday, Sept. 18, there will be a benefit barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. at Trinity Church, 500 E. North Ave. Presale tickets are $10 for a chicken plate and $5 for a kidās hot dog plate. For tickets, contact: mmiller@ci.lompoc.ca.us or 315-7075.
