The second annual fundraising event to keep the written word alive at Ernest Righetti High School will bring fresh produce, barbecue, and entertainment to the schoolās east parking lot on Nov. 1.
More than 20 vendors will feature fruits and veggies from the Santa Maria Valleyāsome of which will be donated by local farmersāas well as arts, crafts, and other food offerings. The Righetti High farmers market was created to raise money in support of the schoolās monthly magazine, The Legend.
Teacher and adviser Robert Garcia said in a press release that his students have been working hard to organize the financial and marketing sides of the event.
āThe students are also learning great communication skills as they speak with vendors and the community,ā Garcia said in the release.
The Legend, which replaced the traditional school newspaper, is a magazine that includes a wide range of perspectives from the student body, photographs, sports, and news that matters to students. Last year, Garcia and his students were able to raise $1,400 through the farmers market. Some of the money was used for scholarships, and the remaining funds were used to produce issues of the magazine.
Vendor space is still available for the farmers market. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Bradley and Foster roads. For more information about the cost of renting a space, contact Garcia at 937-2051, Ext. 2503, or rgarcia@righetti.us.
