The Santa Barbara County Arts Commission and City Arts Advisory Committee recently announced that it’s seeking nominations for the Santa Barbara County’s next poet laureate. This year marks the 10th year of the honorary position; current poet laureate Chryss Yost’s term ends in April. Poet laureates are expected to enrich the community by raising awareness of the literary arts and energize local creativity.

Applications are accepted through Feb. 20. The Poet Laureate Search Committee will review each application and make a decision by March. The committee’s recommendation will then go to the Santa Barbara City Council for approval. Nominations will be accepted from an organization or individual, but no self-nominations will be accepted.

Applications must be sent to the Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Committee c/o the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, Post Office Box 2369, Santa Barbara or hand delivered to the Arts Commission Office at the County Courthouse, third floor Rotunda Tower, 1100 Anacapa St., Santa Barbara. More information is available at 568-3990 or sbartscommission.org.
