Pizza hasn’t yet changed the world, but it might if enough donations come in on Nov. 28. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Domino’s Pizza, in conjunction with the Santa Barbara County Firefighter’s Association, will be participating in the “Fill the Boot” fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research Center. This will be its fifth annual event. The participating Domino’s is at the corner of Clark Avenue and Bradley Road in Santa Maria.
During the event, firefighters will stand in the center divider and will ask drivers to donate. Those who don’t want to drive-by donate can meet one of the other volunteers on the corner.
Money will be collected in firefighter boots, to be borrowed from the Allan Hancock College Fire Academy.
“We do pretty well every year,” said General Manager Tim Jensen, who was a fireman for 17 years.
If you miss out on the opportunity to donate to St. Jude’s, don’t fret. Domino’s will offer to add a donation to your pizza order until Dec. 21 during the St. Jude “Thanksgiving Campaign.”
Anyone who would like to volunteer at the event should call Tim Jensen at 268-3766; or, during the night, call the Domino’s store at 733-4555. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt, as well as pizza for lunch that day—and a warm feeling throughout. Most volunteers work the whole four hours, but any amount of volunteer time will be readily accepted.
