The McCune Foundation on Dec. 20 announced the award of more than $360,000 in grant money for community organizing and social justice initiatives in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

The group made a total of 15 grants to support organizing efforts by farm workers, renters, parents, youth, and others seeking to improve their lives and neighborhood. Recipients active in Santa Maria included the Santa Barbara County Action Network, PUEBLO, and an association of immigrant farmers.

Sara Miller McCune and the late George D. McCune established The McCune Foundation in 1990. In 2010, the Foundation provided 32 grants totaling more than $710,000.

Grassroots organizations meeting the Foundation’s funding guidelines and interested in consideration for a grant can submit a letter of inquiry by the next deadline, Jan. 14, 2011.
