Western State Conference officials named Allan Hancock College’s entire starting infield as Gold Glove winners for the 2010 season, recognizing the foursome as the conference’s best defensive players at their positions.

First baseman Skyler Ellis, second baseman Chris Mallory, shortstop Dalton Rouleau, and third baseman Peter Straka all received the honor. The award was the second Gold Glove for Mallory and Ellis, who also won in 2009.

The Bulldogs were also well represented on the All-Western State Conference 2010 team, with 12 players making the list. Straka and Mallory were named to the WSC first team, along with outfielder J.P. Maestas and pitcher Jacob Valenzuela.

Straka hit .393 in the regular season and had 46 hits, while Mallory led the Bulldogs in runs with 38. Maestas finished the regular season with 35 hits and 22 RBIs. On the mound, Valenzuela finished 4-2 overall, and 4-0 with two saves in conference play, allowing just 44 hits and 19 runs.

Four Hancock players were also named to the WSC second team: Ellis, second base; Chris Rivera, outfield; Chuck Buchanan, pitcher; and Cody Berryman, pitcher. Dylan Young, Austin Nyman, and Brandon Creath received honorable mentions.
