Teens and 20-somethings interested in volunteering and leadership experience—here’s your chance: The Workforce Investment Board of Santa Barbara County is currently seeking new membership for its Youth Advisory Council. Council members help the board develop workforce-related policies affecting young people, especially low-income or at-risk youth.
The Youth Advisory Council is composed of 15 seats and meets six times per year, or as needed, to discuss policies. Appointees must be 16 to 21 years old, and usually serve two-year terms. The deadline to apply for a position is Nov. 15.
The council also needs adult volunteer members who, according to the Workforce Investment Board, have expertise in youth policy; are the parents of eligible youth; or are former participants or representatives of organizations that have experience relating to youth activities. The board is also looking for representatives from organizations with connections to the disabled community, and other individuals who “have a strong desire to work with the WIB representing the youth of our community.”
Anyone interested in serving on the Youth Advisory Council or being an adult volunteer can contact Workforce Investment Board staffers for more information: Ismael Ulloa is at 681-4649 or I.Ulloa@sbcsocialserv.org; Joyce Aldrich is at 681-4784 or J.Aldrich@sbcsocialserv.org.
Youth Advisory Council applications are also available online at the Workforce Investment Board website, SantaBarbaraCountyWIB.org.
