Spike, the antithesis of a lap dog (in the July 22 issue), who is “no liberal or conservative leg-humper,” is indeed an extremely right-wing conservative leg-humper! The placement of the political ad, though it appears to be an editorial-type new column in the Sun, is in reality a strong partisan attack piece. The person who wrote it speaks in the first person as Spike, but one can assume it is Andy Caldwell and that COLAB paid for the half-page ad because their e-mail address is at the end. He says that COLAB does not endorse individuals, but if this is not a COLAB endorsement, I will eat some of his kibbles. Spike respects Sam, but is scared to death of John. Sounds like an endorsement to me!
“Spike,” a mean-spirited bull-spreading bulldog, evidently feels he has to assassinate the character and record of the opposition, rather than tout the achievements of his candidate.
I have heard John Laird speak several times, have checked his voting record, and have found him to be an exceptionally capable and knowledgeable candidate with an amazing grasp of all issues. Unfortunately, space does not permit a list of all of his strengths and achievements. The San Jose Mercury News named him “the most effective legislator in 2008” while he was in the state assembly. I have no reservations that California needs John Laird’s expertise in the state senate now. Don’t forget to vote Aug. 17!
