The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office released minimal details regarding an incident at Maple High School in Vandenberg Village on Jan. 26 that resulted in six students being transported to a nearby hospital after they took an unidentified controlled substance.

On Jan. 27, the office announced the students were treated and released to their families and that they were still investigating “the circumstances surrounding the incident.” In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office said because the case involved minors that it would not be releasing any additional details.

Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the high school around noon on Jan. 26 following reports of several students who “were potentially under the influence of a controlled substance.” A Sheriff’s Office school resource deputy assigned to the campus assisted staff in locating the students, who the office said were both “males and females.” The juveniles were then transported to a nearby hospital by American Medical Response.

The Sheriff’s Office stated there were no threats to any students or staff because of the incident.
