On Friday, March 24, Flying Goat Cellars in Lompoc will hold an opening reception for its latest art showcase—a solo exhibition of paintings by local artist Carol Talley. The reception is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
The exhibit is titled Luminous Landscapes, and features a collection of Talley’s “abstracted landscapes” that evoke feelings of both familiarity and mystery, according to press materials.
“I explore the landscape by in-person direct observation, and by recollection of the place,” Talley said in press materials. “My aim is to capture the essential form, color, and gesture of a place, and then distill these elements into a compelling representation, leaving the unnecessary behind and revealing the vital core of a scene.
“Sometimes the location can be recognized,” Talley continued. “At other times, the reference has been morphed into a dreamlike image.”
Talley, whose paintings will be on display at Flying Goat Cellars through the end of May, will be at the upcoming reception for guests to meet. For more info on Talley’s work, visit caroltalley.com.
