Members of the Tailwinds Bicycle Club of Santa Maria shared their love of cycling with students at the Bonita School on March 23 by presenting bicycles and helmets to winners of a school essay contest. Tailwinds members also spoke about the importance of bicycle safety.
The club is host to the Windmill Century Ride, an annual fundraising event that benefits several local schools through a bike give away program. Cycle Star Bicycles, Central Coast Cyclery, and Pedal Power sponsored this year’s giveaway.
This year’s Windmill Century Ride will be held on July 21 at Pioneer Park. Participants can sign up now for a 26-, 50-, or 100-mile scenic ride. The event features a Santa Maria-style barbecue, T-shirt, and rest stops with lunch, snacks, and water.
Tailwinds of Santa Maria is a social cycling club with a variety of weekly rides for all fitness levels. Most rides take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Guests are always welcome to join on a ride.
